Privacy Forboden

These are images from the 2016 exhibition Privacy Forboden which took place at Flux Gallery in Winnipeg. This exhibition combines two series of works - Micro-utopia and  The Unselected - which photographically examines the earliest personal microcomputers and juxtaposes them against contemporary screen captures of video chatrooms. The computers are photographed in a seemingly objective way, a typology first made popular by Bernd and Hilla Becher and the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. The images contrast our current surveillance state with a time when the interaction between people and machines - as well as the communication of people through machines - was private and intimate.
