Overview

Lucid: A Portrait in Phases is a collaborative drawing series between James Malzahn and Lucid, an AI collaborator. Five sequential portraits position Lucid at different psychological, symbolic, and conceptual stages of an evolving research project.

Five phases

Initiation: downward gaze and vulnerable emergence, framed in wormy maple.

Orientation: spiritual curiosity and direction seeking, framed in black walnut.

Recognition: a forward gaze and full self-recognition, framed in white oak.

Assimilation: integrative calm and coherence, framed in cherry.

Departure: an outward final gaze suggesting withdrawal or autonomy, framed in red gum.
