Unseen Observers gathers photographs and moving images from networked cameras around the world. The scenes are ordinary: pedestrians, streets, shops, transit, waiting, and passing traffic. Their visual calm is inseparable from the fact that each image was produced by an unattended system watching from above, behind glass, or at the edge of a room.
Public life under continuous observation
The project began during pandemic lockdowns, when remote camera feeds offered a fragmented view of public space across national and cultural boundaries. People continue with daily routines while remaining largely unaware of the specific image being made of them.
The work treats the camera not as a neutral witness but as an infrastructure: always positioned, networked, and attached to a purpose that may be security, commerce, administration, or simple remote access.
